In the wondrous process of creating, we connect to our soul and souls connect because of it - that's just like magic to me
I am a Dutch artist: inviting, stubborn, inventive, sensitive, and a bit of an activist at heart. I'm an impressionist painter and I live, travel en work in our self-converted campervan, which is just big enough to serve both as an art studio ánd as a tiny home for my husband and me.
Both in life and in my work I seek beauty, wonder intentionality, sustainability, representation and justice, and true, heart to heart connection
Creating something that hasn't been on this planet before is just magic to me.
It's probably why I've been creating for as long as I can remember. Painting feels like a second language and I love experimenting with different materials. I'm currently mostly working with oil paints, acrylics, and sometimes gouache, but I will always integrate the fluent translucency of a watercolor painting in my work and the expressiveness of charcoal in my pieces. Besides paints, I enjoy adding embroidered details to a painting.
I'm an impressionist painter at heart: capturing the scenes we encounter with quick, loose brushstrokes and mixing intentional marks with very impulsive ones is what I enjoy doing most. Apparently, it suits my contemplative but spontaneous spirit pretty well too :)
From an empty canvas to chaos, to ordering and molding it into something that sings:
the creative process holds an almost sacred space in my studio practice.
It's where I both lose and find myself over and over again.
It's meditation and play, protest and self-care - all in one.
When I'm not painting I love to read, write, listen to or make music, and to go out on adventures. We run a very open household and both value community deeply, so you can often find us sharing a coffee (loaads of coffee) or meals with (new) friends and family.
In the summer of 2020 we moved out of our apartment and into our self-converted home on wheels. That winter we explored the insanely beautiful Norwegian forests and mountains and experienced temperatures as cold as -27C.
After 5 incredible months of crazy adventures, we've been parking in my parents' driveway until we're ready for the next adventure: which we'll embark on in September!
Elke zes weken schrijf ik over onze avonturen en het kunstenaarsschap voor het platform Handmade in Holland, lees de blogs hier.
about Anneke Koster-Koetsier
I'm very fortunate to share passions with my mother, who fulfills the role of studio assistant since September 2020. Driven and endlessly creative, she makes sure your packages get packaged beautifully, prints are printed and quality checked, our inventory remains somewhat organized and so much more! She's vibrant and enthusiastic and welcomes everybody with open arms and cups of coffee. You might also meet her at one of the live events we attend, such as art fairs or studio routes. When Harri and I are on the road again, she's the one who keeps an eye on the Dutch office.
